Award Procedures
Financial assistance is awarded based on two main criteria: demonstrated financial need and the student's ability to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Aid is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
A financial aid application is considered complete only after the following are received:
-
A valid FAFSA with Howard Community College's school code (008175)
OR
A valid MD One App with the Maryland Higher Education Commission
AND
-
All additional documentation requested by Financial Aid Services
-
Completion of all financial aid required agreements
Once reviewed and approved by a financial aid administrator, students will receive an email notification to their HCC email address regarding their financial aid package.
Initial offers are based on full-time enrollment for the fall and winter/spring semesters. Financial aid amounts—including grants, scholarships, and loans—are adjusted based on actual enrollment as of the financial aid census date and before disbursement.
Note: Per federal regulations, only courses required for a student’s program are considered in determining federal aid eligibility. Students are notified via HCC email of any changes to their aid, and they can view their financial aid information in Self-Service under the Financial Aid link.
