Additional Requirements and Verification Documentation
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) or HCC’s Financial Aid Services may request additional documents to verify information submitted on the FAFSA. At any time, a student’s application may be selected for a review process called verification.
If selected or additional documents are required, students must submit all documentation to Financial Aid Services to complete the review process. No federal financial aid will be awarded or disbursed until all required documents are received and reviewed.
Students are encouraged to submit documents as soon as possible, but no later than their last date of attendance. In accordance with federal regulations, some documents—such as IRS tax documents—may be accepted up to 90 days after the last date of attendance, but no later than August 1 of the academic year. Other documents must be received by the last date of attendance to be considered and to remain eligible for aid.
Once all documents are submitted, HCC will review the file and submit any necessary FAFSA corrections to ED. Students will be notified of any changes.
If a student is selected for verification after aid has been awarded or disbursed, all future aid will be placed on hold until verification is complete. Failure to provide documents will result in cancellation of aid, and any funds already disbursed may need to be repaid to ED or HCC. If verification results in changes to the student's eligibility, previously disbursed aid may also need to be repaid.
