Application Procedures

To be considered for financial assistance, students and families must complete the following: 

  • Step One: Complete the federal or state application.
    • Students who are US Citizens, Permanent Residents, Eligible Non-Citizens, and T Visa Holds should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is available at www.studentaid.gov.
    • Undocumented students and students who meet the non-resident exemption as described under §15–106.8. of the MD Education Article should complete the Maryland Higher Education Commission One App which is available at https://mdcaps.mhec.state.md.us/. 

To allow HCC access to the information reported on the student's application, students must add HCC (TIV School Code=008175) to the application. Students who complete the FAFSA must have a valid social security number (SSN) on file with Records, Registration, and Veterans Affairs (RRVA). 

Please Note: The FAFSA and the MHEC One App are available on October 1st of each year. Students seeking financial assistance are strongly urged to submit their application by the March 1st priority deadline. Applications completed by March 1st will be given priority for limited grant and scholarship funds.

  • Step Two: Respond to all financial aid required agreements.

    All Maryland state residents are required to complete the Drug-Free Pledge and Maryland Residency Confirmation agreements. These can be found in Self-Service under the “User Options” menu.

    Students interested in HCC Educational Foundation Scholarships must also complete the FERPA agreement in Scholarship Universe after creating an account at: https://howardcc.scholarshipuniverse.com

    Students interested in the Student Employment Program are strongly encouraged to complete the Student Employment Participation Interest agreement as well.

 

  • Step Three: Complete the HCC Online Scholarship Application.
    Howard Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. (HCCEF) provides hundreds of specialized opportunities for eligible students. The online application is made available to HCC students during the spring of each year for the following academic year. Visit https://howardcc.scholarshipuniverse.com/ to apply. Students should check Scholarship Universe periodically throughout the academic year for additional scholarship opportunities.
