Course Materials (Campus Store Funds)

Howard Community College (HCC) has partnered with Slingshot to provide required course materials for students enrolled in credit courses. The cost of these materials is included in students’ tuition and fees and is charged directly to their HCC account. This program offers required materials at below-market rates, making it a cost-effective option to support students' academic success.

Students who prefer to obtain their materials independently may opt out of the Slingshot program by contacting the Finance Office.

Use of Financial Aid in the Campus Store

Students with a completed financial aid application and an aid award exceeding their tuition and fees may use remaining funds in the Campus Store. In accordance with federal regulations, Pell-eligible students must be given a method to obtain required books and supplies by the seventh day of the semester. At HCC, these bookstore funds are available as early as two weeks before the start of the term.

To check available funds, students can log into myHCC and access Self-Service. Any purchases made with financial aid will be charged to the student’s HCC account and deducted from their Title IV credit balance.

Support for Specialty or Optional Materials

The Howard Community College Educational Foundation (HCCEF) offers limited financial support for students experiencing financial hardship and unable to purchase required specialty or optional materials. Students in need of this support should contact Financial Aid Services for information about the application process.
