NURS 126 Military Corpsman Transition Nursing Concepts
This course will explore professional behaviors, standards, and expectations deemed necessary to function in the role of the registered nurse as the student transitions from the role of the Military Corpsman. Concepts from the biophysical, psychosocial, and nursing domains will be explored and select content from the first year of the Nurse Education Program will be reviewed. Clinical decision-making skills and competencies are developed through learning experiences in the classroom, clinical setting, skills laboratory, and simulation to provide safe, patient-centered care. Progression to the second year of the Nursing associate degree program will occur after completion of this course.
Hours Weekly
4 hours theory, 9 hours clinical
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate a holistic/multicultural approach in the provision of patient-centered care.
- Implement appropriate teaching strategies to assist the adult population in promoting healthy outcomes.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team, patients, and families to promote continuity of care and achieve patient outcomes.
- Implement communication techniques when interacting with peers, patients, and members of the interprofessional team to support continuity of care.
- Demonstrate leadership and accountability by applying an ethical decision-making framework to examine an ethical dilemma.
- Implement nursing interventions according to the nursing process, standards of practice, policies, and procedures in the delivery of nursing care.
- Utilize knowledge of sciences, pharmacology, and nursing concepts to formulate nursing judgments.
- Apply the concepts of evidence-based practice to examine a nursing practice area of interest.
- Explore differences in roles, education, and practice between military corpsmen and registered nurses.
