PSYC 200 Lifespan Development

Through this course, students will develop an understanding of the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of individuals from infancy to very old age. Within the bio-psychosocial framework, students will be able to research and apply developmental concepts to relevant problems in daily life.

Course Objectives

  1. Apply the scientific method critically by assessing the advantages and disadvantages of the
    various methods of developmental research.
  2. Identify, compare, and contrast issues or problems within the major theories of lifespan
    development.
  3. Analyze and evaluate the biological, psychological, and social perspectives and the
    interaction between these three perspectives using supportive data and evidence.
  4. Apply one’s own experience to the perspectives of bio-psychosocial theory using hypothetical
    issues or problems.
  5. Compare and contrast bio-psychosocial and cultural influences across the lifespan.
  6. Formulate specific, unified, and concise theses through writing that demonstrate an understanding of lifespan development thinking.
