ARTT 225 Life Drawing I
In this course, students learn the descriptive and expressive drawing of the human body by working from live models and studying human anatomy. Students consider proportions, the skeletal and muscular systems, surface anatomy, foreshortening, drapery, and the expressive use of lighting. Traditional and contemporary approaches to the presentation of the human figure are explored.

Course Objectives
- 1. Employ the common drawing media, materials, and tools to make drawings that are descriptive and drawings
that are expressive. - 2. Define and apply the specialized vocabulary of drawing.
- 3. Control the overall proportions of the human figure using the head as a unit of measure.
- 4. Apply principles and techniques of construction to control the placement and pose of the figure.
- 5. Describe in drawings the topographical and structural distinctions created by gender and age.
- 6. Distinguish between the aims and methods of historical and contemporary approaches to figure drawing.
- 7. Describe the human form using line, value, and a combination of both.
- 8. Perceive and analyze the elements that make drawings successful or unsuccessful.
- 9. Demonstrate the beginnings of a personal approach to figure drawing.
- 10. Present a portfolio of works demonstrating their mastery of the course objectives.
