ARTT 246 Photographic Studio Lighting
An introduction to the principles of artificial lighting and camera work as they are applied in studio photography; teaches studio lighting for still lifes, products, portraits, and figure photography. Students must have a 35 mm fully adjustable SLR camera. The use of medium format cameras will be covered.

2 hours lecture, 3 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- 1. Define and apply the specialized vocabulary used in lighting studios.
- 2. Identify lighting equipment, systems, and backgrounds.
- 3. Describe and utilize various lighting set ups.
- 4. Operate studio lighting equipment such as electronic flash systems and hot light systems.
- 5. Demonstrate and apply lighting and posing techniques for portrait photography.
- 6. Demonstrate and apply lighting and arrangement techniques for product and still life photography.
- 7. Identify and demonstrate medium format camera techniques.
- 8. Critique images for content, quality, and composition.
- 9. Evaluate his/her images to be submitted in a final portfolio.
