ARTT 292 Ancient Egyptian Art and Architecture
This course surveys the art and architecture of ancient Egypt from prehistory through the Roman era. The course will focus on broader connections between art and architecture in ancient Egypt. Students will examine the impact of social and cultural changes on developments in the visual arts. the study and analysis of primary source texts will give students insight into how ancient Egyptian art and architecture developed and its influence on the formation of other art form throughout the region.

Course Objectives
- 1. Pose and address questions related to the social and cultural settings of the region through
the study of Ancient Egyptian Art and architecture to examine humanistic expression and its
context. - 2. Analyze and incorporate the methods in which art and architecture in general has dealt with
innovative approaches to solve problems of the ethnical, religious, and geographical
boundaries creatively and effectively. - 3. Identify and discuss critically the concepts behind the methodology of the art of Ancient
Egypt in historical and contemporary settings, the innovative and creative ways that it has
brought together people of various ethnicity and cultural differences. - 4. Analyze, assess, and reflect on the role of the art and architecture of Ancient Egypt on the
region and how aesthetics and creativity have illuminated the condition of humanistic
expression in search of meaning through time. - 5. Explain the impact of the geographic environment on Egyptian art and architecture.
- 6. Identify the major periods of Egypt’s history and demonstrate an understanding of differences
in the visual art associated with these periods. - 7. Analyze the style and iconography of specific works of art and architecture of this period.
- 8. Examine and evaluate primary source texts as a means of understanding connections
between Egyptian thought and visual expression of the period. - 9. Apply archeological and art historical methodologies to conduct research and interpret the
symbolic significance of objects or monuments from ancient Egypt.
