PTAP-265 Professional Issues in Physical Therapy
This seminar covers topics relevant to professional development and communication. Topics include cultural competence, learning and communication styles, and ethical and legal aspects of care. The structure and function of institutions, reimbursement systems, wellness, and special topics in health care will be discussed. Employment topics will include resume writing, interviewing, and performance appraisals. Work and life issues will be covered.

- 1. Employ clinical reasoning skills needed in the health care setting.
- 2. Compare cultural differences and personality traits that impact the clinician's interaction
with patients/clients and other members of the health care team. - 3. Contrast individual learning styles and relate to patient/client education.
- 4. Define an audience and develop a community education presentation.
- 5. Demonstrate skills needed to pursue and secure employment.
- 6. Discuss the psychosocial factors that impact an individual's response to therapy.
- 7. Describe the PTA licensure process.
- 8. Apply key principles of money management.
- 9. Describe how the legal system relates to physical therapy practice.
