FILM 210 Russian Film
This course is an interdisciplinary study of Russian society and culture through the medium of film. The aim of the course is to show the interconnection between artistic expression and the historical, social, and cultural realities within Russia from the 1920s to the present.

Course Objectives
- Engage in a cinematic exploration of various worldviews as it relates to Russian cinema
- Describe Russian history, cultures, values, and aesthetics of self and others through an exploration of cultural mores, family life, religion, art, and literature as depicted in Russian film.
- Identify and explain multiple perspectives when exploring subjects within Russian cultures.
- Analyze global events and issues and describe the interconnection between artistic expression and the historical and cultural realities of Russia from economic, political, environmental, aesthetic, or social perspectives.
- Identify and apply critical theories and concepts related to enduring and contemporary issues of aesthetics, creativity, humanism, meaning, and/or invention in Russian film.
- Incorporate innovation, risk-taking, and creativity into analysis and problem-solving methods by distinguishing different cinematic styles and genres based on the cultural models created throughout Russian history.
- Pose and address questions related to the confluence of creative and humanistic expression with social and cultural contexts in Russian film.
