ARTT-247 Photojournalism I
This course will focus on taking photographs with a photojournalistic perspective. A portfolio of images will be the end result. Types of photojournalism applications involve news photos, feature photos, sports photos, weather photos, humor photos, environmental portraiture, and the photo essay. Fundamental principles of photo journalism such as the history of photojournalism, freedom of the press, ethics in journalism, and the power of the image in society will also be addressed. This is NOT a writing intensive course; the emphasis will be on photography. A digital camera and basic computer literacy are required.

Course Objectives
- 1. Define and apply the specialized vocabulary used in photojournalism.
- 2. Identify the historical perspectives of photojournalism.
- 3. Describe and utilize picture editing skills.
- 4. Utilize digital imaging skills.
- 5. Comprehend and apply the concept of “deadline” in making and completing assignments.
- 6. Demonstrate and apply photojournalistic techniques for feature photographs, style photographs, sports
photographs, flash portrait photographs, and news photographs.
- 7. Apply appropriate and accurate captions to all photojournalistic images.
- 8. Keep a journal of photojournalistic images from various publications
- 9. Identify various ethical problems in photojournalism.
- 10. Critique images for content, quality, and composition.
- 11. Evaluate his/her images to be submitted in a final portfolio.
