PTAP 210 Fundamentals of Practice II

This course provides an introduction to physical disabilities and community barriers. The course includes the discussion of examination and intervention approaches for the following topics: functional ability, prosthetics, orthotics, cardiopulmonary conditions, and balance dysfunction.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Identify physical barriers that exist in the home and community.
  2. 2. Discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act and accessibility guidelines.
  3. 3. Describe wheelchair components and demonstrate wheelchair skill training.
  4. 4. Discuss the etiology and management of amputations.
  5. 5. Demonstrate intervention skills for the care of a patient with an amputation.
  6. 6. Discuss the physical therapy management of pulmonary dysfunction.
  7. 7. Demonstrate pulmonary treatment interventions.
  8. 8. Demonstrate interventions for improvement of daily function.
  9. 9. Apply the principles of the use and fit of prosthetics and orthotics.
  10. 10. Demonstrate interventions in the management of vascular disorders.
  11. 11. Implement a balance training program, as outlined in a plan of care.
