CNST 205 Building Construction Contract Documents
This course introduces students to the technical and legal documents that are used in the construction industry. The course includes a review of plans, specifications, and construction contracts, and incorporates a detailed examination of construction contract administration and contractor project management procedures.

2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- 1. Identify the components of construction documents (plans, specifications and contracts).
- 2. Recognize and apply industry standard terminology related to construction documents.
- 3. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Owners, Architect/Engineers and Contractors and others.
- 4. Define the term “preconstruction” and understand its value during both design and procurement.
- 5. Utilize industry standard procedures for the administration of meetings, submittals and site visits.
- 6. Implement quality assurance and quality control processes.
- 7. Interpret contract documents and understand the process for making contract modifications.
- 8. Demonstrate an ability to develop and manage a construction project documentation system.
- 9. Discuss contractual responsibilities specific to executing the work, payment and closeout.
- 10. Demonstrate an appreciation for the complete scope of construction project administration.
