INDS-112 Historical Interiors

This course will cover furniture, interiors, architecture, methods and materials from the Renaissance to the present. Field trips to museums and/or historic homes are included. Students will develop their own reference files.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Understand the historical background/ influences of various periods/ styles of furniture and
    decoration.
  2. 2. Identify and define the characteristics of various periods in decorative arts and furniture.
  3. 3. Develop and increase vocabulary of period decoration and furniture terms.
  4. 4. Understand the relevance of period design and decoration in today’s world
  5. 5. Develop and expand knowledge of necessary dimensions for furniture based on human anatomy.
  6. 6. Demonstrate ability to incorporate period pieces and well-planned interiors.
  7. 7. Identify the historical influences in contemporarily-produced furnishings, architecture and
    decorative arts.
