DANC-160 Introduction to Ballet Technique
This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique with emphasis on placement and alignment of the body, and other preparatory work necessary for the establishment of a basic technical foundation. This course also introduces ballet history and terminology.

Course Objectives
- 1. Explain basic ballet terms in class and in written assignment(s)/examination(s).
- 2. Demonstrate at a beginning level an understanding of basic ballet material through daily attendance and
performance in class. - 3. Identify and discuss music for ballet.
- 4. Explain the origin and a brief history of ballet.
- 5. Demonstrate an expanded self-awareness and awareness of others when performing and engaging in
group activities
- 6. Communicate in a written critical analysis a live, professional ballet concert.
- 7. Analyze and interpret ballet performance from a social, historical and personal perspective
- 8. Demonstrate and understanding of the relationship between ballet technique and its expression in
performance.
- 9. Satisfactorily pass practicum examinations demonstrating technical ability in combination form.
