DANC-103 Dance History Through Criticism
In this course, dance history is approached through the writings of dance critics and historians. The challenge to students is to develop an analytical and critical evaluation of the art of dance.

Course Objectives
- 1. Demonstrate a knowledge and appreciation of dance as an art form.
- 2. Understand the historical perspective of dance.
- 3. Understand the dance critics’ perspective of dance as an art.
- 4. Develop an awareness of the various ways of how critics view the genres of dance (ballet, modern, jazz
and tap). - 5. Develop the basic writing skills that are involved in creating dance criticism.
- 6. Enhance personal exposure and knowledge of all genres of dance.
- 7. Have an understanding of the interrelationship of dance among the arts.
- 8. Have an understanding of the interrelationship of dance and society, and cultural issues.
