BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I

Human Anatomy and Physiology I is the first course in a two-semester sequence that examines the anatomy (microscopic and gross) and physiology of the human body. Major topics covered include basic chemistry, cell biology, basic metabolism, tissues, and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. Emphasis is placed on the integration of body systems and the regulatory mechanisms that maintain homeostasis. The lecture component focuses on key physiological principles, while the laboratory provides hands-on experience with both gross and microscopic anatomy, as well as foundational physiological concepts. The course includes three 70-minute class meetings and one three-hour laboratory session each week.

NOTE: Students are required to co-enroll in BIO 201P: Peer Assisted Learning, a supplemental course designed to reinforce core content, strengthen study strategies, and provide collaborative problem-solving opportunities.
