THET 250 Shakespeare from Page to Stage
This course focuses on reading, analyzing, and interpreting Shakespeare's plays as literary texts; understanding them as products of specific cultural, historical, and artistic currents; and exploring them as performance texts meant for production. Emphasis is given to the process that transforms literary text through production, informed by literary and theatrical elements.

Course Objectives
- Identify, organize, and apply critical theory by using basic literary and theatrical concepts, elements, and stylistic characters specific to the dramatic work.
- Generate ideas, explore possibilities and alternatives to demonstrate innovation and risk-taking in following the steps necessary to bring a Shakespearean pay to production from acting, design, and directing perspectives.
- Analyze and evaluate the ongoing power of Shakespeare's plays and apply these techniques to other performances.
- Develop techniques to evaluate productions of Shakespeare's plays and apply these techniques to other performances.
- Write clearly and effectively using appropriate, relevant and properly attributed content that demonstrates the writer's understanding and the standard conventions of writing about theatre.
- Evaluate the authority, credibility, and purpose of primary and secondary sources.
