INFO 100 Information Literacy and College Success

This course teaches students a core of information literacy and critical thinking skills that will transfer to other coursework and will help them to reach academic and professional goals. Students will learn and refine strategies for college success and will strengthen their capacity for effective academic and professional communication and use of information resources. Through research, reading, writing, and reflection, students will assess their strengths and goals in the context of pathways for academic and career exploration.

Course Objectives

  1. Set academic, career, and financial goals and use resources and strategies to meet those goals.
  2. Determine the nature and extent of information needed for exploring an academic or career-related topic.
  3. Use a variety of techniques to search and access information efficiently and effectively.
  4. Evaluate information and sources through critical thinking.
  5. Integrate researched information in ethical and discipline-appropriate ways.
  6. Employ knowledge of conventions of academic and professional communication to express ideas effectively.
  7. Explore individual beliefs about cultural and ethical issues and demonstrate awareness of others’ beliefs.
