ENES 247 Digital Circuits and Systems Laboratory

This course introduces the modern electrical and computer engineering hardware and software for the digital circuits laboratory. The course begins with a review of basic electrical lab techniques and equipment (digital probes, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.), followed by the design, characterization, simulation, and construction of digital circuits containing logic gates, sequential elements, oscillators, and digital integrated circuits. All digital design and simulation is done in the standard Hardware Description Language (HDL).

Prerequisite

ENES 246, and CMSY 171 or ENES 171

Hours Weekly

3 hours lab

Course Objectives

  1. Use both event simulators and electrical simulators before building a circuit.
  2. Demonstrate appropriate writing styles based upon circuit design starting point.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to organize event testing by creating both test scripts and anticipated output before the circuit is designed.
  4. Work as a team, building on each other’s work and creating a knowledge base on a shared project.
