This curriculum is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to major in film studies and/or electronic media. The Film Studies area of concentration focuses on the history, development, theory, and criticism of the film/video arts, as well as the basic principles of film making and film production. This area of concentration examines the aesthetics and production of film and is designed to enable students to understand the history of film and media and to think and write critically about film and electronic media. Students are advised to check the requirements of the institution to which they intend to transfer.

A graduate should be able to
- Identify, understand, evaluate, and apply ethical reasoning and ethical considerations involved in filmmaking.
- Develop self-confidence and motivation, tolerance to diversity and ambiguity, open-mindedness, risk-taking, insight skills, and the ability to redefine a problem and overcome obstacles.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the critical theories and concepts used in film.
- Understand the history of the medium of film and its language, aesthetics, and technology.
Total Credit Hours: 60
The Arts & Humanities Core requirement may alternatively be fulfilled by completing a World Language Sequence plus one of the following courses: SPCH 151, THET 102, THET 103, THET 202, THET 241, or WMST 193. If a student completes a World Language Sequence, SPCH 115 should be taken as a General Education Core Elective.
