Music Education (Choral/General) - Letter of Recognition
For curriculum information, contact the Arts and Humanities Division—Room HVPA-200—443-518-1480.
This letter of recognition is designed for students who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, or a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Choral/General Music upon transfer to a four-year institution. In addition to the curriculum required in HCC’s Music A.A. area of concentration, students seeking a Bachelor of Music Education must take certain additional 100- and 200-level courses such as General Psychology and Educational Psychology. It is possible to take these courses as part of the general education core. Students should consult the catalog of the schools to which they might transfer for guidance in which specific core and other specialized curriculum to select in addition to the music curriculum while at HCC. Also, schools require the PRAXIS Exam, so students should take that into consideration in their academic plan.
Students must also complete the courses listed in one of the groups below:
(Choral/General) Voice
(Choral/General) Piano
Total Credit Hours: 11
If a student wishes to also get a vocal performance certificate at the school to which they transfer, it is strongly recommended that the student take FREN 101, FREN 102, FREN 201, and FREN 202; and/or GERM 101, GERM 102, GERM 201, and GERM 202; and/or ITAL 101, ITAL 102, ITAL 201, and ITAL 202 (and the corresponding labs), as proficiency in all three languages is required for such programs. Lyric Diction courses are also strongly recommended as they are required during the first two years of study for Choral/General Music Education majors (see the Music Performance – Voice letter of recognition for more information).
