NURS-099 Transition into Nursing I

At the completion of this course, the student will utilize major theoretical and clinical constructs required of a student in the Howard Community College Nurse Education Program. The course will focus on the framework of Responses to Stress and its application to written assignments, the approach to theory and to clinical functioning. Instruction is guided through individualized directed study and application of clinical skills in the Campus Lab.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Describe the curricular framework of Stress and Adaptation as used at Howard
    Community College Nursing Program.
  2. 2. Identify the five responses to Stress (according to HCC Nursing Curriculum), describe
    them and apply them to patient care in a clinical setting.
  3. 3. In relation to the theory elements of integrated curriculum, individualized study, and
    modules, define the concepts and rationale for use as well as being able to complete
    selected individualized packets.
  4. 4. Participate in clinical experiences in the following manner:
    a. Describe expectations of the ADN.
    b. Participate in pre and post conferences in relation to clinical objectives.
    c. Complete each of the five aspects of care.
    d. Complete a NCP using format and criteria of the Howard
    Community College Program.
  5. 5. Demonstrate retention of drug calculations by solving computation problems.
