ENGL-094 Directed Studies in Writing
In this course, students will acquire the skills needed to write and revise paragraphs used in academic writing. Beginning with paragraphs and progressing to essays, students will learn to construct clearly written, logically organized, grammatically correct compositions. The writing assignments will be supplemented by related readings, discussions, and grammar instruction as needed.

Course Objectives
- 1. Implement the writing process, including pre-writing, drafting, and revising to compose written assignments.
- 2. Create compositions that demonstrate critical thinking.
- 3. Compose unified, coherent paragraphs with topic sentences.
- 4. Write topic sentences that express the main idea of a paragraph.
- 5. Support main ideas with specific, relevant details.
- 6. Compose effective introductions and conclusions.
- 7. Use the rules of English grammar and mechanics to write correctly structured sentences.
- 8. Edit, revise, and proofread to achieve more effective communication of ideas.
- 9. Make connections between reading and writing by finding, using, and referencing specific relevant textual evidence to support ideas.
