ARTT-158 Digital Imaging, Vector Program
Using an industry standard vector-based program, students will focus on the use of the computer as a creative tool for visual communication. Using this vector-based graphic image production and editing software program, students will gain a working knowledge of image design, creation and transformation, color selection, special effects, prepress preparation, print options, and more. With an emphasis on the commercial application of technical skill and craft, students will learn to design and composite images for effective visual communication and artistic self-expression. In addition to exploring the possibilities and limitations of digital media, students will also explore the legal and ethical issues that digital image creation presents. Basic computer literacy is required.

Course Objectives
- 1. Achieve competence with the available computer software for the creation of computer images.
- 2. Become aware of the immense possibilities that the computer brings to effective visual communication.
- 3. Create images that take advantage of the unique technical, conceptual and expressive possibilities of
digital imagery. - 4. Apply the elements of lighting, composition, and design to transform existing images and to create new
ones. - 5. Analyze the effectiveness of digital images in terms of composition, originality, artistic vision,
craftsmanship, emotional/intellectual interest and commercial value. - 6. Analyze the extent to which important ethical issues inherent in digital image-making, including
questions of copyright and appropriation, will impact his or her artistic production. - 7. Define and apply the specialized vocabulary used in computer graphics.
- 8. Demonstrate mastery of digital image creation techniques through a printed and/or digital final portfolio
of works.
