HUMN-111 Leadership Development Studies: A Humanities Approach-Honors

This course is designed to provide emerging and existing leaders the opportunity to explore the concept of leadership and to develop and improve their leadership skills. Instructors will use a variety of learning techniques that may include, but are not limited to, integration of humanities into the study of leadership, dialogue, experiential exercises, literature, films, and shared analysis. Students taking this course will gain a foundational understanding of the concept of leadership theory while developing a personal philosophy of leadership and an awareness of the moral and ethical responsibilities of leadership. The course provides the opportunity to develop essential leadership skills through study, observation, and application.

  3. 3. Demonstrate effective techniques and strategies for articulating a vision.
  4. 4. Understand the steps involved in setting goals.
  5. 5. Discuss the complexities inherent in ethical leadership.
  6. 6. Articulate their personal leadership values.
  7. 7. Employ the processes involved in effective decision-making.
  8. 8. Recognize the different types of conflict and appreciate the role a leader can play in managing conflict.
  9. 9. Learn team-building strategies and engage in team-building activities.
  10. 10. Comprehend the concept of empowerment and the techniques of effective leaders to empower others.
  11. 11. Express the methods leaders can use to initiate change and help others adjust to change.
  12. 12. Expand their awareness of leadership to include the concept of servant-leadership.
  13. 13. Improve their leadership abilities.
