HMDV 270 Honors Capstone I
This one-credit seminar is the first of a two-semester capstone sequence for students enrolled in an HCC Honors program. In this seminar, students will identify a research topic, contextualize the topic within relevant academic literature, develop and refine research questions, and construct appropriate methodologies for an academic project within one of three tracks: STEM; Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities; or Community-engaged Scholarship. Students must select one of the three year-long tracks prior to enrolling in this course.

Course Objectives
- Develop an original capstone topic, drawing upon academic perspectives in one of the three tracks (STEM; Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities; or Community-engaged Scholarship).
- Find, review, and critically evaluate academic literature for use in developing new scholarly projects.
- Produce an annotated bibliography of academic sources that contextualize the capstone project.
- Develop and refine specific, actionable, and realistic research questions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the standards of ethical research for the purposes of project design.
- Create and begin implementing appropriate methods to address research questions.
- Complete, as appropriate, necessary protocols for institutional approval of the capstone project.
- Provide constructive peer review.
- Formulate a schedule for the timely completion of project methods and analyses.
