ENGL 105 Special Topics in Literature
In this course, students study literature that shares a common theme or that is limited to a particular historical period or genre. In addition, students are introduced to critical reading strategies, literary criticism, and a diverse and expanding literary canon. Students will learn to recognize themes and patterns that commonly occur in literature.

- Identify and analyze how writers in different times and places have explored similar themes or patterns in literature.
- Generate ideas, explore possibilities, and consider how texts relate to enduring and contemporary cultural issues in literature.
- Identify and discuss ways in which related art (film, paintings, music, etc.) help broaden our understanding of literature.
- Analyze literary works for an academic audience.
- Organizes ideas and source material in order to make clear, cohesive arguments about literature.
- Communicate effectively an understanding of the literature and present it to others.
