MLTS 252 Hematology Clinical Practice
Hematology Clinical Practice consists of an internship at a sponsoring hematology laboratory clinical site. Supervised activities in areas of blood and body fluid clinical analysis are meant to enhance the student's medical laboratory knowledge base with emphasis on professionalism, safety, problem-solving, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance.
Notes
The Medical Laboratory Technician program conducts the following 4 courses concurrently during the last spring semester of the program: MLTS 251, MLTS 252, MLTS 253, and MLTS 254. 9 hours per week are assigned to each course and therefor, approximately 36 hours per week for 15 weeks are dedicated to the clinical practice training. The hours and assignments will vary according to the activities conducted in the student lab and at the off-campus clinical sites.

- Perform laboratory procedures in compliance with protocols utilized in a clinical hematology
laboratory. - Compare and interpret normal versus abnormal results.
- Evaluate the need for follow-up testing when abnormal results are encountered.
- Demonstrate compliance with professional and safety protocols.
- Evaluate pre- and post-analytical processes encountered in the clinical laboratory.
