HUMN 104 Introduction to the Digital Humanities
This course is an introduction to the field of study, research, teaching, and practice of digital humanities. This course will examine the values and cultural heritage of the humanities as it pertains to the digital world. As a study of the digital process, the course will focus on the ways in which digital humanities are transforming research and academic disciplines, including comparisons between traditional and digital humanities; tools and techniques used by digital humanists; the processes of planning, managing, and evaluating digital humanities projects; ways in which digital humanities affect scholarly communication and higher education; and the role of libraries and information professionals in this area of study.

Course Objectives
- Engage in a humanistic exploration of various worldviews.
- Identify and apply critical theories and concepts related to enduring and contemporary
issues of aesthetics, creativity, humanism, meaning, and/or invention in the humanities. - Incorporate innovation, risk-taking, and creativity into analysis and problem-solving methods
in the humanities using digital methods.
- Pose and address questions related to the confluence of creative and humanistic expression
with social and cultural contexts in the digital humanities. - Assess, reflect on, and critically analyze the role of creative and aesthetic activities and
products of humanistic expression, in illuminating the human condition and search for
meaning as expressed by the humanities in the digital world. - Identify appropriate technologies to efficiently complete tasks, solve problems, create new
works, or improve processes across a variety of disciplines. - Use, adapt, or design technologies to achieve the best results for research, communication,
or task-related objectives. - Compare and contrast the ways in which digital humanities methods and practices are
applied in different disciplines.
