AVMP 155 Principles of Film and Media Production
Previously FILM 139. This course is an interdisciplinary study of film and video production. Emphasis is on the creative and technical aesthetics of basic content production which includes: composition, terminology, lighting, sound, and linear vs. non-linear structure. This course will also examine the technical processes, rules, and ethical considerations that are faced when making media. Students will be challenged to create media that elicits emotions and changes minds.

Course Objectives
- Identify and apply critical theories and concepts related to enduring and contemporary issues of aesthetics, creativity, ethics, and invention in media through analysis of media images, narratives, and genres.
- Incorporate innovation, risk-taking, and creativity into problem-solving methods in media by analyzing the ways in which media represents the world at large and its intertextuality and ideology.
- Assess, reflect on, and critically analyze the role of humanistic expression in illuminating the human condition through ethical considerations in media.
- Discuss the ways in which the media represents the world at large and its intertextuality and ideology.
- Analyze the close connection between media and different types of media institutions.
- Explore the creative relationships and professional responsibilities of various media production personnel and their contributions to media production efforts.
- Practice and analyze the basic artistry of manipulating sound and image.
- Pose and address questions related to the confluence of creative and humanistic expression with social and cultural contexts in media by analyzing the close connection between media and different types of audiences.
