NURS-245 Preparation for Professional Nursing Practice

This course facilitates the entry into nursing practice and the nursing profession. Emphasis is placed on concepts and exemplars related to health care delivery systems, advocacy, professional practice, and workplace issues. This course completes the course sequence of the Nurse Education Program.  A passing score on the nursing program exit exam is a course requirement. At completion of the program, students are prepared to assume entry-level roles as associate degree nurses

A graduate should be able to

  1. 1. Evaluate the health care setting for practices that support or impede provision of patient-centered care.
  2. 2. Review professional and organizational initiatives aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of health care delivery.
  3. 3. Propose individual and collective efforts to advocate for the health, welfare, and safety of the public.
  4. 4. Examine strategies that support a safe workplace environment.
  5. 5. Summarize the RN’s authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing practice.
  6. 6. Examine the effect of health care delivery systems on nursing practice.
  7. 7. Prepare for licensure and for employment as a registered nurse.
  8. 8. Create a personal plan for professional growth and transitioning to the role of the registered nurse.
