MUSC-111P Ear Training and Musicianship II

This is the second of a four-semester sequence of ear training and musicianship courses required of all music majors. Along with MUSC-111A, Music Theory II, the course focuses on sharpening student skills in sight reading, sight singing, and taking dictations.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Sight sing melodies in major/minor keys with intervals from the dominant triad, seventh
   chords, and tritone using syllables.
2. 2. Identify keys and notes in alto and tenor clef.
   
3. 3. Take dictation of a diatonic melody of moderate rhythmic difficulty which includes leaps of up
   to a major seventh and intervals from the dominant triad and dominant seventh chord.
   
4. 4. Take dictation of two-part texture.
5. 5. Take choral dictation of cadential progression in root position and inversions.
6. 6. Perform rhythmic exercises in one or two-part which include the divided and subdivided beat in
   simple and compound time.
7. 7. Take dictation of the outer voices of a simple chorale excerpt and analyze the harmonic
   progression.
