LFIT-138 Thai Boxing/Muay Thai

Muay Thai, translated into English as Thai Boxing, is the national sport of Thailand and is a martial art with origins in the ancient battlefield tactics of the Siamese (or Thai) army. Thai Boxing/Muay Thai training involves the use various training drills, exercises, and sophisticated pad training to help develop and maintain students' physical fitness. The course will offer the student continuous physical and mental challenges, increased cardiovascular conditioning, better flexibility, and stress relief through physical activity.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Explain the history of Muay Thai.
  2. 2. Relate the cultural aspects of Thailand as they relate to Muay Thai.
  3. 3. Execute the various Muay Thai techniques presented in class, including various stances,
    footwork, blocking, punching, kicking, kneeing and elbowing.
  4. 4. Develop a Muay Thai-based fitness routine
  5. 5. Demonstrate Muay Thai training methods.
  6. 6. Explain how Muay Thai can be used to develop fitness.
