FYEX-120 Introduction to Career Development and Decision Making
This course provides a setting for students to systematically examine the skills required to make effective career decisions and formulate life goals. Through a process of self-assessment and exploration of career information resources, students will consider career possibilities and develop a probable career choice.

Course Objectives
- 1. Assess, identify, and clarify interests, values, personality preferences, skills, and abilities as
they relate to career choice and the world of work. - 2. Synthesize interests, values, personality preferences, skills, and abilities in order to select
potential career options. - 3. Compile research findings about selected potential career and education options in today’s
labor market and work world. - 4. Communicate, in writing and through oral and visual presentation, highlights/summaries of
findings. - 5. Use campus resources and programs to further explore education, internship, and
employment possibilities. - 6. Create a professional portfolio to include a finished resume and sample cover letter.
- 7. Research the impact and importance of technology and social media in today’s job market.
- 8. Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to build a professional network.
- 9. Create a career and educational plan detailing steps toward finding and/or reaching your
career goal(s) over the next 5 years. - 10. Demonstrate effective interviewing and interpersonal skills.
