ARTT-213 Portraiture I

This course will include the basic skills of portrait drawing: proportion, line, form, and the anatomy of the head and neck. The emphasis will be on anatomical knowledge, observation, and the use of traditional design principles.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Define the planes and form of the head as two-dimensional shapes.
   
2. 2. Visually proportion the shapes and spaces that define the head.
   
3. 3. Demonstrate the rhythms and relationships inherent in the portrait.
   
4. 4. Create the relationships and shapes that provide a likeness of a particular sitter.
   
5. 5. Compose the portrait for effective artistic expression.
   
6. 6. Use values to reveal form, underlying anatomical structure, and the effect of light on the subject.
