ENGL-213 Latin American Literature

Students will study Latin American Literature, in English translation, from the pre-Colonial era to the present. Students are introduced to major literary topics and themes within a variety of Latin American nations and cultures, including indigenous and Afro-Latin voices. Students will read from several genres, including the novel, short story, poetry, the testimonial narrative, and historical nonfiction. In addition, students will explore readings, films, and discussions to learn the social and historical context necessary for understanding and appreciating Latin American literature from Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This course is writing intensive.
