DHYG-209 Periodontics

This course will examine the histological and clinical characteristics of healthy and diseased periodontium. Topics will include a discussion of the histological inflammation process and host response as related to periodontal disease. Also included will be the periodontal exam, prognosis, treatment planning, periodontal instrumentation (scaling and root planning), and surgery. Emphasis will be on the prevention and disease control process through the use of oral home care products.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene program and DHYG-100, DHYG-102, DHYG-104, DHYG-106, and DHYG-111. Corequisites: DHYG-150, DHYG-208, NUTR-211, and BIOL-106.
