CSC 123 Introduction to Data Science
The world is amassing ever-increasing amounts of data. Data is created every time you take a photo, send a text, click on a link, make a purchase, visit a hospital, etc. Understanding this data is vital to businesses, governments, and other agencies in solving problems ranging from developing better targeted marketing to saving lives from the spread of deadly diseases. Data Science is an interdisciplinary area of study that is concerned with the collection, preparation, analysis, visualization, management, and preservation of data. This course introduces some of the computational and
statistical methods needed to convert data into information via the identification of patterns and the presentation of data visualizations. Students will employ real-world data sets to better understand data such as business data, population growth, climate change, the happiness index, as well as
data related to other global and regional challenges. This course is beginner-friendly. No previous background in statistics or in computer science is
required.
