Student International Travel Policy
Berea College enjoys its ability to provide some support for its students who study, perform, or serve in international locations. Berea College's Center for International Education (CIE) administers endowed funds to support credit-bearing Education Abroad programs. Proposals to study abroad will be evaluated in a competitive process and will be subject to available funds, with students who have not yet studied abroad while at Berea College given preference. No funding will be provided for independent studies or team-initiated studies in international settings.
At times, students travel internationally with Berea College support (financial or otherwise) while not participating in an Educational Abroad program. Examples include musical groups who may tour internationally, or a student presenting with their professor at an academic conference in an international setting. For such instances, no institutional funding or fundraising will be provided beyond that available through restricted endowed accounts held by academic departments. Although for such instances, students do not seek approval or funding form the CIE, they still must abide by the policies that guide Education Abroad. They must also register with the Associate Director of Education Abroad at least 30 days prior to their planned travel and complete the required paperwork so that the College has their dates of travel and emergency contact information on file, and so that Education broad can issue international insurance coverage.
