NUR 449 Nursing Leadership/Management

Prerequisites: NUR 400 and NUR 448 with grade of C or better
Corequisite: NUR 450

This senior-level course prepares pre-licensure baccalaureate nursing students for leadership roles in diverse and evolving healthcare environments. Aligned with the AACN Essentials (2021), the course fosters competency in leadership, systems thinking, interprofessional collaboration, ethical decision-making, and career readiness. Students will assess and apply evidence-based leadership models, examine quality and safety strategies, examine contemporary issues affecting healthcare practice, and explore career development pathways. Emphasis is placed on systems-based practice and person-centered care across the healthcare continuum. The course facilitates the development of emotional intelligence as a foundational skill for effective leadership, self-awareness, and professional identity formation. This course includes four hours of didactic instruction each week.
