NUR 448 Community Health Nursing
Prerequisites: NUR 350, NUR 352 and NUR 355 with C or better.
This senior-level course prepares students to integrate and apply public health and community-based nursing concepts to promote and protect the health of populations. Guided by the AACN Essentials (2021), students examine social, cultural, economic, and political determinants of health and analyze their influence on families, communities, and healthcare systems. Emphasis is placed on population health assessment, health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention. Students engage in collaborative health promotion with individuals and at-risk populations across
diverse community settings. Clinical experiences foster professional identity, civic responsibility, interprofessional collaboration, and advocacy for health equity. This course includes three hours of didactic/classroom instruction each week and 84 hours of clinical experience per term.
