NUR 351 Mental Health Nursing
Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing major
Guided by the AACN Essentials (2021), this course focuses on the holistic nursing care of individuals, families, and groups experiencing psychiatric and mental health needs across the lifespan. Students develop competencies in clinical judgment, person-centered care, therapeutic communication, trauma-informed care, and interprofessional collaboration to promote mental health and well-being. Emphasis is placed on health equity, social determinants of health (SDOH), safety, and recovery-oriented practice. Students integrate evidence-based interventions across the health care continuum and engage in reflective and professional practice. This course includes three hours of classroom instruction per week and 84 hours of clinical learning experiences
