NUR 301 Women's Hlth & Maternity Nurs
Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing Major
Guided by the AACN Essentials (2021), this course prepares students to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care addressing the unique health needs of women across the lifespan. Emphasizing a holistic and culturally sensitive approach, students will explore health promotion, disease prevention, and management related to women’s health from puberty through post-menopause. The course covers maternity care including preconception health, fetal development, and management of normal and high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal periods. Through integration of didactic instruction, simulation, and hospital-based clinical experiences, students will develop clinical judgment, interprofessional collaboration, and patient advocacy skills. Clinical experiences in diverse healthcare settings provide learning that supports safe,
equitable, and person-centered care. This course includes three didactic hours per week and 84 clinical hours
