PUBH 251 Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification

The Community Health Worker (CHW) certification course provides the opportunity for students to learn about how to promote health and wellness in communities. This course covers the Maryland State Health Department's nine core competencies.

Eligible to enroll in stand-alone ENGL 121, grade of B or higher in PUBH 101, and permission of the department chair. Pre- or corequisite: PUBH 250

1. Describe the function of public health agencies in the community setting.
2. Apply theoretical and practical skills of the public health professional.
3. Analyze the role of the public health professional in agency activities.
4. Describe administration, program activities, and problems relevant to public health agencies.
5. Apply concepts of public health strategies including planning, implementing, administering, and/or evaluating a public health program.
