EDUC 220 Field Experience in Education
This capstone course provides students with thirty hours of supervised field experience in an educational setting. Through observation students will examine the impact of child and adolescent development on the learning process; explore the theories, concepts and skills central to a grade level and/or discipline; reflect on effective teaching practices including engaging learning activities, formative and summative assessment, and the creation of supportive learning environments; and apply ethical reasoning to classroom situations. Students will create a professional portfolio which includes a research paper or other artifact requiring the application of strategies of inquiry, evaluation of sources, and the ethical use of information.

- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the learning process, as well as child and adolescent development.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of content including the theories, concepts, and skills central to the discipline or disciplines one intends to teach.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of teaching practices including construction of engaging learning activities, assessment for and of learning, and the design and maintenance of supportive learning environments.
- Discuss ethical issues in the educational field.
- Apply strategies of inquiry and exploration to research perennial and emerging issues in teaching and learning.
- Evaluate the authority, credibility, and purpose of current and historically-significant studies related to teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate the effective and ethical use of a variety of sources to refine and support scholarly inquiry into perennial and emerging issues impacting teaching and learning.
