NURS 244 Concepts of Nursing IV

Building on concepts and clinical competencies from previous nursing courses, this course prepares students to care for adult patients with complex health alterations in acute and community-based settings. Leadership and management concepts are further developed through experiences in team leading and continued focus on planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of safe, effective patient-centered care. Clinical, skills laboratory, and simulation experiences will supplement didactic learning methods.

Course Objectives

  1. Promote patient-centered care using the nursing process as a framework for integrating theory and practice while respecting the patient’s culture, preference, and values.
  2. Provide health education for adult patients using principles of teaching and learning and health promotion.
  3. Collaborate with adult patients and interprofessional team members in acute and community-based settings to provide safe, quality nursing care.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients and families using a variety of formats when planning and providing care.
  5. Demonstrate behaviors which promote leadership and accountability by utilizing legal, ethical, and professional standards to manage patient care.
  6. Perform nursing interventions based on current standards of practice, policies, and procedures to assure the delivery of safe and effective care.
  7. Integrate professional knowledge, science, and evidence to formulate nursing judgments.
  8. Evaluate traditional and existing nursing practices by examining current evidence.
