ENST 115 Environmental Science Laboratory
This laboratory involves the hands-on study
of trophic interactions, soil erosion, stream ecology, species diversity,
intra- and inter-specific competition, and population dynamics. This laboratory
is designed to complement the lecture component of environmental science (ENST 105)
with an emphasis on data collection, data analysis, and field trips to local
waste management sites.
Prerequisite
Pre- or corequisite:
ENST 105
Hours Weekly
3 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- Communicate biological and ecological concepts using appropriate vocabulary, symbols, and
notation. - Apply scientific reasoning to the analysis and comparison of soil samples and water samples
collected from different systems using several indicators of soil and water quality and
evaluate the reasonableness of a conclusion.
- Describe and compare differences between distinct temperate forest biomes.
- Describe the process of solid and hazardous waste management.
- Describe the process of waste water management.
- Describe and identify microscopic and macroscopic organisms using taxonomic keys.
