Prerequisite

Admission to the Cardiovascular Technology program, permission of CVT program director, PHYS 101 or equivalent, and appropriate score on mathematics placement exam or eligible to enroll in MATH 070

Hours Weekly

3 hours weekly

Course Objectives

  1. Explain the process of creating the radiographic image.
  2. Discuss the nature of ionizing electromagnetic (EM) radiation and the radiobiological effects on the
    human body
  3. Describe electrical components and apply Ohm’s Law to parallel and series electrical circuits.
  4. Describe specific patient safety measures and concerns associated with the use of radiation in the cardiac
    cath lab.
  5. Identify principles of radiation protection including responsibilities of the cardiovascular technologist
for patients, personnel and the public.
